Overview
Spikerz can add a Threads profile in two ways. You can bring it in together with its Instagram account, through your Meta Business System User or the Instagram business login. Or you can connect it directly by signing in with Threads.
The way you connect decides what Spikerz can do on the Threads profile:
Through Instagram - Spikerz manages who has access to the Threads profile. You get Asset permissions and permission alerts.
Directly with Threads - everything above, plus comment moderation in Comments cleaner and the other Threads features.
Meta does not give a System User or a business login access to Threads comments. Only the Threads login grants it, so comment moderation always needs the direct connection.
This guide shows both connections and how to turn on comment moderation for a Threads profile you added through Instagram.
Connect Threads Through Instagram
Use this when you connect your Meta Business with a System User token, or your Instagram business account with the Meta login. The Threads profile of each Instagram account is listed with it.
Step 1: Add your Meta business hub
Go to top-right profile icon > Settings > Integrations, scroll to Business hub and click Add business hub. Select Meta Business, click Next and paste your System user access token. Spikerz checks the token as soon as you paste it. When the System User and your business appear, click Connect.
⚠️ Connecting with the Instagram login instead? Go to All assets > Add account > Instagram and choose Instagram business & Business Suite. The account list in Step 2 is the same.
Step 2: Choose the Instagram account and its Threads profile
In Choose accounts to connect, the Threads profile appears under its Instagram account with the note Select to manage its permissions. Selecting the Instagram account selects its Threads profile too. Clear the Threads checkbox if you only want Instagram. Click Next.
Step 3: Manage access to the Threads profile
Pick the Threads profile in the asset selector at the top left. It shows a link icon and the Instagram icon, because its access comes from the linked Instagram account. Open Asset permissions to see and manage who has access.
⚠️ Threads access is managed through Instagram. Removing someone from the Threads profile also removes their access to the linked Instagram account and its Facebook Page.
Turn On Comment Moderation for Threads
On a Threads profile connected through Instagram, Comments cleaner and the other Threads features show Threads not connected. Connect the profile directly to turn them on.
Step 1: Click Connect Threads
Click Connect Threads on the message. You can also go to All assets > Add account > Threads.
Step 2: Sign in with the same Threads profile
Accept the terms of use and click Threads account. Sign in on the Threads page with the profile you already added through Instagram, and approve the permissions Spikerz asks for.
Step 3: Start moderating comments
Spikerz upgrades the same Threads asset, so you don't get a duplicate. Its permissions, alerts and link to Instagram stay as they are, and Spikerz starts scanning the profile's comments. Open Comments cleaner to set up your filters.
Tips & Best Practices
No Threads row under an Instagram account? - the Instagram account has no Threads profile, or your System User is missing the Threads permission. The token check then shows Missing permissions to connect Threads assets.
Use the same profile - signing in with a different Threads profile adds it as a separate asset instead of upgrading the one you have.
Need only access control? - the Instagram connection is enough. Connect Threads directly only for the profiles whose comments you want Spikerz to moderate.
