šŸ”‘ Understanding the Two Types of YouTube Permissions

1. Brand Account

A Brand Account is a type of YouTube account associated with a brand, not an individual. It allows multiple people to manage the account via Google’s account permissions system (e.g. in Gmail or Google My Business).

2. YouTube Studio Permissions

These are specific to YouTube Studio, the platform where you manage videos, analytics, comments, monetization, and more. It allows role-based access (e.g. Editor, Viewer, Manager) from within YouTube Studio settings.

šŸ”¹ A. For Brand Accounts (via Google Account access)

Use when you want to give access to email, channel management, and Brand-level features.

āœ… Steps:

  1. Select the Brand Account connected to the YouTube Channel.

  2. Click ā€œManage Permissions.ā€

  3. Sign in again if prompted.

  4. Click the ā€œ+ Invite new usersā€ icon.

  5. Enter the email address of the person you want to add.

  6. Choose their role:

    • Owner: Full access, including adding/removing others.

    • Manager: Can do most tasks, but not manage permissions.

    • Communications Manager: Limited role focused on email and post management.

  7. Click Invite.

šŸ’” The person will receive an email invitation and must accept it to gain access.

šŸ”¹ B. For YouTube Studio (channel-level access)

Use when you want to give access only to video uploads, analytics, comments, and monetization management.

āœ… Steps:

  1. In the left menu, click ā€œSettingsā€.

  2. Select ā€œPermissions.ā€

  3. Click ā€œInviteā€.

  4. Enter the person’s email address.

  5. Choose a role:

    • Manager: Full access to most settings.

    • Editor: Can edit content but not manage permissions.

    • Viewer: Can see all channel data but can’t make changes.

    • Limited roles: Include Editor (Limited), Viewer (Limited) — no rights to revenue data.

  6. Click Done → Then click Save.

šŸ’” Note: The invited user must have a Google account. They will receive an email with access confirmation.
